PENDER COUNTY GOP FEBRUARY MEETING

With a quorum declared, the meeting was called to order at approximately 7:00 PM

Meeting Minutes

The meeting minutes of the January 9, 2007 meeting were approved as written.

Treasurer’s Report

Treasurer Bill Morrison reported that current checking account balance on hand was $1,038.26.  Bill reported he has one outstanding invoice for the PO Box which will be paid in the near future.

Secretary Vacancy

The Secretary position is still empty.  Although Janet Kraft was elected at  the January meeting to fill out the remainder of the term until the next convention, she has since moved to Charlotte, NC . We are still looking for a Secretary but will hold any further action until the County Convention in March. 

Upcoming Events

Pender County Republican Party Convention will be in March, 2007.  At the January meeting it had been decided to hold the convention on March 6 at the Hampstead Library.  Unfortunately the Library was not available.  A discussion followed regarding holding the convention on Tuesday evening March 13^th or Saturday morning March 10^th.  The Library is available both days.  Bill Morrison moved that we hold the convention Saturday March 10.  Russell Johnson seconded.  Motion passed unanimously.

Chairman Muller stated that three (3) items must be covered at convention. They are:

• Party officers will be elected.  The Chairman requested that the committee consider viable candidates to present to the convention for all party offices.
• Delegates for the State Convention and District Convention will be selected.  If anyone Registered Republican wishes to attend the convention he/she must be elected as a delegate at the County convention.  Pender County is allocated 44 Delegates and 44 Alternates.  That list will also be the same list that will be presented to the District 7 credentials committee for their convention.
• Adopt the County Plan of Organization.

District 7 Convention – will be held April 21^st at 10:30 at Brunswick County GOP HQ near Bolivia , NC.

NC State GOP Convention – will be held June 1-3, 2007 at Charlotte , NC

Old Business

Precinct Organization – Precinct Chairmen - we currently have one Precinct Chair: Russell Johnson Lower Topsail.  Susan Cole – Upper Topsail resigned due to personal conflict.  We are continuing to attempt to fill chairs.

Fund Raisers:

·        Reagan Day Dinner – The consensus was that we continue with plans for a Reagan Day Dinner in March,   We will attempt an event sometime in the last week in March.  Bill Morrison stated he has JC Caterers tentatively scheduled for sometime during the week of March 26 – 30 awaiting our final decision.  Bob Muller will contact Poplar Grove tomorrow for available dates during the same week.  Speakers for the Presidents Day Dinner centered around Senator Dole, NC Senator Fred Smith and US Representative Patrick McHenry.  Kevin Strickland contacted Rep. McHenry’s staff and indicated he will follow through tomorrow.  Bill Morrison indicated we could get tickets printed with a quick turnaround time.  We will follow up on the details during the next couple of days because time is of the essence.

·        Reverse Drawing – We will hold our annual reverse drawing and BBQ in the fall.  The date of Thursday September 13^th was suggested.  Bill Morrison will reserve the auditorium and JC Caterers.  Further discussion and planning will take place in future meetings.

New Business  

County Commissioners Redistricting plans – County Commissioner George Brown, Jr. led a discussion on plans to further study the Redistricting of the County Commissioners Districts.  He solicited ideas from the group on their suggestions for presentation at the two open public sessions which are scheduled for March (possibly 8^th and 15^th, one on each part of the county.).  We thanked Mr. Brown for his diligence and efforts in this matter.
